Buddy Up For Life Making Lasting Impacts Behind USTA Florida Foundation Grant

Buddy Up for Life is making a profound impact in the Lake Nona community by providing adaptive tennis clinics tailored to individuals with Down syndrome. As a recipient of an USTA Florida Foundation Program Support Grant, Buddy Up for Life has been able to expand its reach, enhance its programming, and continue fostering growth for its Athletes both on and off the court.

The grant covered costs such as professional tennis and fitness instruction for coaches, facility and court rentals, team shirts, racquets for new participants, and marketing efforts. These funds have allowed the program to offer high-quality tennis clinics at minimal fees, ensuring accessibility for all participants.

Buddy Up for Life goes beyond tennis instruction, aiming to improve participants’ physical, social, and emotional well-being. Clinics are designed to address the unique challenges faced by individuals with Down syndrome, equipping them with skills that extend beyond the court. Athletes not only enhance their tennis abilities but also build friendships, gain confidence, and improve their overall health. Several participants have advanced to higher levels within the program, reflecting their growth and dedication.

The Lake Nona location is the only ongoing adaptive tennis program in the area specifically for individuals with Down syndrome, filling a critical gap in the community. By combining a focused curriculum with a compassionate team of coaches and volunteers, Buddy Up for Life creates an environment where Athletes can thrive.

The program has also encouraged a deeper sense of community. Athletes have formed stronger connections with peers at clinics, school, and work. They’ve experienced noticeable health improvements, including weight loss and increased strength, leading to greater confidence and happiness.

Buddy Up for Life’s motto, “Where there’s a Will, there’s a Way,” highlights their commitment to adaptability and excellence. Through the grant from the USTA Florida Foundation, the Lake Nona chapter continues to offer opportunities for individuals with Down syndrome, proving that tennis truly changes lives.

To help aid these grants, you can donate to the Foundation in multiple ways. The USTA Florida Foundation “Play Tennis” License Plate is a great way to show your tennis pride, with 90% of all proceeds going to the Foundation. Also, in honor of USTA Florida’s 75th year as an organization, the Foundation has a goal to raise $75,000 for 75 years!
